Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of over 100 known active compounds found in the cannabis plant. CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from cannabis or hemp and, in most cases, combining it with a carrier oil.
Interest in CBD oil in Canada has greatly increased in recent years, as it has a wide range of possible therapeutic applications. Furthermore, CBD is non-intoxicating and does not produce the “high” feeling typically associated with THC or cannabis. Another benefit is that CBD oil can be consumed discreetly and has little to no odour.
At Zenabis, we extract CBD from cannabis using supercritical C02 – a clean and safe process. We also have procedures in place to ensure the final product is solvent-free.
CBD oil can be consumed in several different ways. The most common method is by placing a few drops under the tongue, or by mixing it into food. Another option is taking encapsulated CBD oil in gel caps, which ensures consistent dosage. CBD oil can also be used topically – by applying a small amount directly on the skin or combining CBD oil with a base cream or salve. The benefit of CBD oil in this format is that it provides a localized effect, rather than being felt throughout the body. The Canadian CBD oils Zenabis produces are decarboxylated (heat activated), so they can be consumed without any additional preparation required.
The effects of CBD oil may last much longer than other methods of consumption, such as smoking or vaporizing dried cannabis. When cannabis is inhaled, its effects are felt almost immediately, and typically last around 2-3 hours. By comparison, a benefit of CBD oil is that its effects last 4-6 hours or longer. However, it takes around 0.5-2 hours for the effects to be felt.
All Zenabis products go through a rigorous quality assurance process, and our Canadian CBD oil is no exception. It is tested by an independent, third-party laboratory for over 50 unapproved pesticides and contaminants. We post all test results on our website.
It is recommended to start with a low dose of CBD oil, and gradually increase dosage over a period of days or weeks. Your healthcare practitioner can advise you on the potential uses of CBD, and we suggest consulting them before trying CBD oil or any cannabis product.
Remember that CBD oil formulated for oral consumption is typically combined with a carrier oil, such as olive oil or MCT oil, making it unsuitable for smoking or vaporizing.
